Last night was the world premiere of the play, Degas in New Orleans, in which my daughter plays Emily, a bonded free black in the just post civil war era, who is the cousin of the painter Degas. It is based in history, and my daughters performance was stellar. She blew me awa. Yes I will admit to being a bit biased, but based on audience reaction I am not the only one who thought so. The very best part for me however was seeing the look on her face when she took her final bow and got to bask for a moment or two in so much love and appreciation. As long as I live I will never forget that moment. A mother lives for these things. If you want to see her and the rest of the amazing cast, they play again tonight at 7 at Bard, tomorrow at 7 at the Red Hook High School, and again at the High School for a matinée at 3 on Sunday. You too can then say, I knew her when!!
